Things That Make Me Happy
Last Friday I saw cars outside and young people going into the North Annex. Followed them. The room was full of Nepalese youth and leaders. The bubble of excitement was infectious---a party spirit. Boxes of items.
I asked what was happening. They were packing to leave a day early for State Teen Talent competition in Roanoke. Many of the parents of this group and some of the children only a few years ago lived in refugee camps.
They were festive as they were preparing for a joyful venture. Some had not been out of Charlottesville since arriving from refugee camps. Nor had they ever eaten at a Chick-Fil-A—a treat they enjoyed on the way home!
And there were cars and cars of others who loaded to go on this trip. Youth competed in Bible Quiz, dance, music, art, drama, writing and short films. Several of our youth will compete in national competition in July.
Also on Friday the baptistry was filled and a young man Pastor Arvind has been discipling was baptized. He moved to Texas the next day.
Sunday came. Michael Evangelista who grew up in Covenant and graduated from James Madison University came home for a visit. He shared that he has just been promoted to Director of National Sales for his company!
Beautiful newborn Jada Miller left UVA Hospital to go home with her parents, Colleen and Moses.
Today all the carpet tiles for the seminar room top level were installed.
Porcelain tile was laid on the second level of the lobby.
Laila found an eight-foot tall cross on Craigslist. Our elder son Danny and I drove his truck and trailer to bring the cross to the church. It weighs about 2,500 pounds.
Every day we are blessed to hear stories of God's grace being manifested in the lives of His children. We rejoice when good things happen to other people. We rejoice when the devil loses and Jesus wins. We rejoice for the constant provision of God, though we are not surprised by heaven's provision. We are a tithing church.
We rejoice! The insert you are receiving with this letter is representative of our emphasis on the Word of God. We believe the Bible is true. We believe that it is eternal. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary. We believe Jesus was crucified, died for our sins, was buried and rose on the third day! We believe Jesus is alive and will return for His Church (John 14).
In the past couple of weeks folks have knelt to write on the concrete floors in their own languages favorite scripture verses. We have enclosed a sample copy for your enjoyment and inspiration.
It is remarkable when people years later go to certain places and stand quietly. If you ask they will answer with a spirit of worship: "I am standing where I wrote my scripture."
There have been times when we have replaced carpet/flooring. Folks are excited to look for their scriptures still clearly visible even after many years. We are still standing on the Word.
We walk in faith. We travel boldly believing the Lord is with us. We continue to give generously to complete the FINISH. We are confident that the building fully complete will be an instrument for great blessing to our congregation, our community, other churches, and that we will serve with greater generosity and effectiveness in world missions.
Thank you for giving. Together we have and will succeed if our desire is to bring glory to Christ and His Church!
Thank you for praying. If Jesus tarries you will this Sunday see part of the FINISH that will be stunning. When you give think of souls saved, discipleship, fellowship and sending missionaries. Think of children learning about Jesus.
May the Lord see our good works and remember us. May others see out good works and glorify Our Father in heaven.
Jeremiah 13:14 "Remember me for this, my God, and do not blot out what I have so faithfully done for the house of God and its services."
