There Is No Normal

The river keeps flowing. Week after week we continue to move forward into a bold future. Steel designs have been submitted and fabrication for bar joists is in process. Plumbing, electrical and excavation work continue.

We are praising the Lord that leaders for the Welcome Center, Greeters and Ushers have agreed to begin their new duties.

A meeting with technology team crafted plans to include design and installation including all current lobbies and the new addition.

Our mission giving in 2017 was $226,000. During our mission conference pledges for specific projects totaled $70,000+. Part of the joy of our mission projects is that other congregations and individuals hear and decide they want to share in the joy, thus increasing contributions.

Last Sunday was a terrific day of worship. We are in a series of sermons on "Investing." The sermon focused on "Investing in Prayer".

It was a gentle word of encouragement that the Holy Spirit spoke into our hearts about a prayer life that does not stop. Consistent. Steady. Determined. From a word spoken to a thought sent heavenward we were pulled into the presence of God. Keenly we were made aware that until we pray intentionally we pray amiss. Our Father wants our fellowship, and He wants to know what is in our hearts.

This coming Sunday the message will emphasize "Investing in the Local Church". Senior Associate Pastor Robert McCready's children will contribute a song during the worship of our tithes and offering. This will be a treat to which you will want to invite friends. During the sermon we will explore the value and significance of being involved in the ministry of worship.

The more our world spins out of control the more my heart is pulled to follow Jesus. I am convinced that multitudes of people are struggling to balance life and sanity. Media has lost credibility. Many politicians allow themselves to be drawn into jaundiced arguments that are destructive to our national character and morale. Movie stars and athletes suggest that popularity and wealth are justification to tell others that living hedonistically without God is none of God's business.

The Apostle Paul suggested that "none of these things move me," (Acts 20:22-27). His focus was on the cross and following Jesus.

If we do not put our anchor in Christ Jesus we will be swayed by the whimsical winds of our carnal times. Voices that speak loudly defying the truths of God's Word have led many astray. Entire denominations have departed from the truth. Satan is alive and well.

Yet, we are persuaded that the Bible is true, Jesus is Lord, and there is no other way to heaven than through the atoning blood of Jesus who died to save us from our sins.

We are a people who believe in the miracle of salvation. We believe in the Jesus of miracles who redeems us from all our sins. This Jesus bore stripes for our healing. He sent the Holy Spirit to be our Comforter and Companion. We are not orphans. We were not left alone in enemy territory. We were not born into the Kingdom of God to fail. We have victory through the Cross and Resurrection of Our Lord!

One more thing: Covenant is not in competition with other churches. We serve a Lord who is faithful and who has promised to be faithful to the faithful. Our heart is set on being faithful!

So let the river flow. We are on a journey to that distant shore. And as we journey we will labor, give and rejoice. We must work while it is day. We have victory stories yet to be written!

Much love Pastor Bare

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!
