A Gift Wrapped That Only Memory Can Open
Yes, it seems trite to say it but the Year of 2010 has flown by. In comfort of my spirit it is noteworthy that I have heard younger people say the same.
Maybe it is technology causing our head to be in such a spin. So much is happening so quickly. No one can keep up with everything. Remember when we could name every make and style of every car made in America….and call the year of most historical cars?
Fact is that 2010 is a package soon to be wrapped up. What kind of wrapping you use and the ribbons you put on the wrapping is your choice.
As for me it was a red-letter year! God has been so gracious. His hand has been shown in my life, the life of our family, and Covenant Church with such blessing. If the list of blessings could be written it would be filled with “YAY”---Praise to God!
The Year 2010 will be packaged, wrapped and take its place in history. We will have to find a place to keep 2010. From time to time perhaps we will go back and look at the Gift of 2010, but we will not be able to open the gift other than by memory.
Here is a suggestion. Think back to the best, happiest, and most wonderful events, meetings, relationships of the year. Hug these memories to your heart. Repeat them over in your mind. Intentionally allow the wonder of the good to squeeze out the memories of things not good, bitter, and that left you feeling less than whole. The Holy Spirit will guide you in this process, if you will allow the Holy Spirit to help. The result will be a cleansing of your mind, heart and soul. You will experience correction of course for fewer bruises and sinful failures in 2011.
There you have it just like the Lord wants you to have it. You have wrapped up 2010 in a good way. You have chosen to take the best of it with you into 2011. You are wise.
Now join with me and a happy band of travelers. We are not going to climb Mt. Everest next year, but we are committing for 2011 to be a BOLD year. We are committing to work together, pray together, and love one another in an adventure that will yield a bountiful harvest. We will seek to bring lost members of our family together in Christ. We will ambition to share Christ with our neighbors and friends. We will evangelize---tell others the good news of Jesus Christ. We will care for the poor. We will reach out to the needy, those bruised and those held captive.
Our Covenant Family will launch 2011 with 21 days of prayer and fasting beginning mid-January. We will humble ourselves. We will pray. We want the Lord to go before us.
Intentionally, we will build good memories in 2011 that if Jesus tarries we will celebrate together!
Much love,
Pastor Bare
