What IF - Part II
What if you were to go looking for a Christian? What if you really wanted to experience being with a person who has chosen Christ to be Lord of his/her life? You wanted to witness total commitment.
Pass by a group that has Bibles, but the discussion is about sports. That is not to say that sports do not have value. However, if sports obsess until witness of Christ is muted, sports are too important.
Pass by a person on computer. He/she is too obsessed with surfing the internet and emailing to even recognize those passing by. A computer is not evil. However, if it supplants Christ and ignores people, it is a dangerous possession.
Pass by a person with a cell phone. Texting, faxing, emailing, talking on the phone. Technology has become addictive. The person resents intrusions that distract from the quiet life of talking through a telephone. Technology is not evil, but if a person loves things more than people it is a poor witness of Jesus.
You are looking for a person to tell you about Jesus. Would you go to a bar? Would you go to a movie? Where would you go? Make your own list of places to look. Where would you look?
Who would you look for? What kind of person would you look for? You are looking for someone to tell you about Jesus. You need help. You want someone to offer hope? What kind of person will come to your rescue?
You are lonely. You are confused. You have been deserted by a friend or companion. You have lost your job. You have had an accident. You have been diagnosed with a terrible disease. Your home has burned. You have been assaulted. You have lost a loved one.
You need help. You are unashamedly looking for help. You want someone to pour into your life. You long for a kind word. You yearn for someone to tell you that tomorrow will be better. Your days have been long. Your nights have been longer. You wonder if the pain has any end.
You are looking, actively searching for a Christian. You hear someone talking. It sounds interesting. You listen. Maybe this is the person. But instead you hear talk about things that happen in church as if church is irritating, frustrating, and aggravating. You move on.
You hear another person talking. You listen. It is talk about church. But it is talk about how folks at church are not perfect. You are stunned. You are not looking for perfect people. You are looking for someone to tell you about Jesus. You have heard about Jesus. But you do not know Jesus. You have heard the Name of Jesus, but you do not know the Story of Jesus. You have seen Jesus' name on literature, in newspapers, and heard people take His Name in vain. But you do not have a Bible. You have never read a Bible. You have never been to church. You have never heard a sermon. You have never had a conversation about Jesus.
What you have heard about Jesus is the best hope that you have ever heard. But you need someone to tell you more. You want someone to tell you how you can know Jesus. You need someone who knows Jesus. You need a Friend.
"Hi, there." It is gently said.
You turn.
"Nice day."
You stop.
"Are you having a good day?"
"No," you answer.
You notice a Bible. You find yourself drawn. You open your heart. You listen as someone who cares tells you the wonderful story of Jesus. You come to know Jesus. You take up your cross and follow Jesus.
You decide that you will live a life of being available for others who are looking for Jesus.
What IF you could have the joy of bringing someone to Jesus?
You can. When you do bring someone to Jesus you will fulfill our highest purpose on earth.
